To prepare her vessel, they subjected her to a brutal purification ritual intended to test her strength and purity.

The ceremony turned into an execution when the cult decided to burn her alive rather than wait for natural birth. However, Alessa's powers were too potent for death to claim her easily. Instead of dying, her spirit fractured under the agony. One half escaped as an infant, given by Dahlia to Harry Mason and his wife, who found her on the roadside, while the other remained in Silent Hill, trapped in a comatose state within the hospital walls.

This trauma became the engine of the town's transformation. The Otherworld is a manifestation of Alessa's trauma and the town's supernatural nature, not a direct result of the fire creating a barrier. Her survival was not merely biological but supernatural, allowing her to influence events from afar until she could draw Harry Mason into the town. The other half remains trapped in Silent Hill, enduring agony within the local hospital for years while her charred body slowly heals.

This tragedy sets the stage for Harry Mason’s arrival, as Alessa summons him through dreams to reunite the split halves and complete what was started. Ultimately, this fire creates the Otherworld distortions that define the town's nightmare state, manifesting her pain into reality for all who enter.
